The a toast to your birthday card and tag

This set centers on one line of type: a toast to your birthday. The card is a folded 5x7, so it fits a standard A7 envelope, and the matching tag is sized to hang from a bottle neck or tie onto a wrapped box. Both carry the toast wording, and both leave room for a name, so the set reads as one gift rather than two separate pieces.

What you are printing is a card and a tag, not a bottle and not a bow. The card opens blank inside unless you add a message, which makes it useful for a handwritten note, a gift card, or a short list of things you love about the person turning another year older. The tag is the piece that does the decorating work.

The design stays simple on purpose. Big toast lettering, a clean field around it, and enough white space that a metallic pen or a wax seal does not fight the layout. If you are handing the gift over at dinner, the tag carries the joke and the card carries the sentiment. That split is the whole idea behind the pairing.

How to pair it with a bottle or gift

Slide the tag onto the neck of a wine, champagne, sparkling cider, or whiskey bottle and let it rest against the shoulder, or punch a hole and loop kitchen twine through it if the bottle is going into a bag. A 3/16 inch hole punch through the top corner works with thin ribbon, jute, or a length of leather cord. Keep the knot loose so the tag can be turned to face the room.

For a non-bottle gift, tie the tag to the handle of a tote, a coffee mug box, a spa basket, or a stack of books. Because the card is flat and folded, tape it to the outside of the wrapped box or tuck it under the ribbon so the toast line shows before the present is opened. The tag is small enough to sit on top of a cake box too.

Milestone birthdays suit the toast angle best. Thirtieth, fortieth, fiftieth, and any year the person is genuinely pleased about. It also works for a retirement dinner or a going-away party if you change the message in the free tool. Pair it with a bottle of something they already drink rather than something you hope they will try.

Print sizes and paper tips

The card downloads at 5x7 inches and prints on US Letter or A4 without any resizing. Check that your print dialog is set to actual size, or 100 percent, and not fit to page, because fit to page will shave the card down slightly and throw off the fold. Print the card on 80 lb to 110 lb cardstock, roughly 216 to 300 gsm, so it stands up when opened and does not curl at the corners.

The tag sheet is laid out to print on the same paper, so one pass gives you the card and a set of tags. If you want the tag to feel stiffer than the card, print tags on 110 lb cardstock and card on 80 lb. A matte finish takes pen ink better than a glossy coated sheet, which matters if you plan to write the name by hand rather than type it.

Cut the card and tags with a paper trimmer for straight edges, or a craft knife and steel ruler if you do not own a trimmer. A bone folder pressed along the fold line gives a cleaner crease than folding freehand. Score first, fold second. If your printer leaves a slight white border, trim it off before folding so the front panel sits square.

Add the birthday name and message

In the free browser tool you type the name that goes at the top, then adjust the toast line underneath. You can keep the default wording, swap in an inside joke, or shorten it to just the name and a single line. Everything appears on the card and carries through to the tag so the two pieces match. When the preview looks right, download the print-ready file.

The message field is where this set earns its keep. Write three or four lines for the inside of the card, or leave it empty and use a pen. If you are printing several cards for the same party, change only the name and keep the toast the same, which takes less than a minute per version once the first one is set.

Type the name in title case rather than all capitals if it is a long one. Long names in all caps run wide and can crowd the margin, and the tool does not hyphenate. For two people celebrating together, put both names on one line separated by an ampersand, or print two cards and use one tag on the bottle and one on the gift.

Free card maker vs AI card designs

The free browser tool is where you type the birthday name and message, then print the 5x7 card and matching bottle tags on your own paper. You get the 5x7 card and the matching tag, you add the name and message, and you print it at home. Wording changes, name swaps, and repeat prints for a second guest of honor are all free and unlimited. If you already know what you want the card to say, there is no reason to spend anything.

Paid AI generation is for when you want the artwork itself to change. You describe the look you have in mind, such as a toast card with art deco glasses or a hand-drawn confetti border, and the AI builds a new card set with fresh art and wording. It uses credits, and it returns something you will not see in the free layout.

One honest note. The AI generator will not match an existing printed invitation exactly, and it will not replicate a logo. Use it when you want a different visual idea, not when you want to nudge the free design two degrees to the left. Most people print the free version, and that is a perfectly good outcome.
